The Whole of the Moon Sculpture and Canvas
Part of the Imagine Collection, this mixed media piece brings together metal sculpture and painting. The sculpture “comes to life” as if the Moon Goddess is coming straight out of the canyon wall. Watch video below.
The Whole of the Moon is based on the famous White Shaman pictograph panel in southwest Texas (photo #10). Learn more about this fascinating mural here.
Sand, stucco, and acrylic paint are used to create the rock wall look on the high-quality canvas. The sculpture is made from salvaged steel that has been painted and protected with a matte finish.
Dimensions…
Canvas: 36 inches tall, 24 inches wide, 1.5 inches deep
Sculpture: 29 inches tall, 12.5 inches wide
This collection was inspired by a quote from artist and archeologist Carolyn Boyd:
“In Native America, those images, as soon as they are applied to the wall, they are living. They are incarnated. We can’t even imagine what that would be like — to paint an image of something and give it life.”
