Saddle Up the Palomino Sculpture and Canvas
Part of the Imagine Collection, this mixed media piece brings together metal sculpture and painting. The sculpture “comes to life” as if the horse and rider are galloping straight out of the canvas. Watch video below.
Saddle Up the Palomino is based on part of the Newspaper Rock petroglyph panel (photo #10) found near Canyonlands National Park in Utah.
Stucco and acrylic paint are used to create the rock wall look on the high-quality canvas. The sculpture is made from salvaged steel and has a beautiful rich orange rust patina.
Dimensions…
Canvas: 24 inches tall, 36 inches wide, 1.5 inches deep
Sculpture: 15 inches tall, 16 inches wide
This collection was inspired by a quote from artist and archeologist Carolyn Boyd:
“In Native America, those images, as soon as they are applied to the wall, they are living. They are incarnated. We can’t even imagine what that would be like — to paint an image of something and give it life.”
