Across the Universe Sculpture and Canvas
Part of the Imagine Collection, this mixed media piece brings together metal sculpture and painting. The sculpture “comes to life” as if it is walking out from the canvas. Watch video below.
Across the Universe is based on a Barrier Canyon Style pictograph panel (photo #7) found in the Head of Sinbad area not far from Green River, Utah.
Stucco and acrylic paint are used to create the rock wall look on the heavy-duty canvas. The sculpture is made from salvaged steel and repurposed copper.
Dimensions…
Canvas: 24 inches tall, 20 inches wide, 1.5 inches deep
Sculpture: 20 inches tall, 8 inches wide
This collection was inspired by a quote from artist and archeologist Carolyn Boyd:
“In Native America, those images, as soon as they are applied to the wall, they are living. They are incarnated. We can’t even imagine what that would be like — to paint an image of something and give it life.”
